5 Reasons to go Axe Throwing for a First Date

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

You only have one chance for a first date with somebody, unless you are Adam Sandler in 50 First Dates. Many swear by the classic, dinner and a movie, or catching up for a coffee. At Whistle Punks we swear that the best first date is urban axe throwing (surprise, surprise).

Before you go away thinking this is a shameless marketing ploy trying to get you to spend your hard earned cash (it 100% is), we do have reasons (and science!) to back up our claim.

1. Stand out from the crowd

In this time of Tinder and internet dating a person could feasibly go on a first date every night of the week. The vast majority of those will be for dinner, a drink or a coffee. How many people are being asked to go axe throwing? Not very hecking many, that’s how many. You will be remembered (for better or worse) for asking someone to go axe throwing.

2. The Science!

Have you heard of the misattribution of arousal? Studies found that adrenalin and an increased heart rate can increase your attraction to another person. Doing something adrenaline-inducing or physical activity on a first date increases your attraction to your date and your dates attraction to you. Axe throwing, for example.

3. Find out about your date

It’s also a great way to figure out if you and your date have similar natures. If they aren’t keen to go axe throwing then it could be a sign that they wouldn’t be as open to new experience as you. Use it as an early warning sign if you have an adventurous spirit.

4. Time to chat

Some people worry that with all the sharp objects flying around they may not get the chance to actually talk to the person they have brought on the date. There is enough time between throws to chat and laugh so no worries there.

5. Celebs do it (kind of)

On a recent episode of ‘Celeb’s Go Dating’ Vas J Morgan from TOWIE went axe throwing on a first date. If that isn’t enough reason to go axe throwing on a first date then I don’t know what is.

Valentine’s Day is coming up. It’s a perfect time to take a special someone axe throwing, get that blood pumping and feel the giddiness of love.

See you on the lanes.

An Epic Festive Day Out

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

It’s that time of the year, the festive period is upon us. The days are getting shorter and greyer. Your winter coat has made an appearance and Christmas ads are on TV.

For many people, Christmas can be a stressful time. Decorations, food and presents need to be bought, family is coming into town and work is becoming busier as everyone rushes to get everything finished before the Christmas break. You almost don’t have time to get into the Christmas Spirit.
It doesn’t have to be that way.

Take a day. Just one day and embrace the festive spirit. At Whistle Punks we think that life is not complete without a bit of fun and joy so follow our guide to the ultimate festive day out and we are sure that by the end of it you to will be looking forward to Christmas instead of dreading it.

Day Activities for your Festive Day

Start your festive day in the best way (we are very biased) with axe throwing, it’s not a classic festive tradition but it’s a great way to get pumped for a long day of food and festivities.
Find Whistle Punks Urban Axe Throwing in the following locations:

Christmas Market for a festive day

After you’ve built up a hunger throwing axes at targets and smashing bulls-eyes, it’s time to hit one of our favourite Christmas traditions. That, of course, is the humble Christmas market. Not only can you find unique and interesting Christmas gifts but the food and festivities do a great job of bringing on the Christmas Spirit.

Our top picks for Christmas markets are:

Christmas shopping is the worst but you need to do it and flowers and chocolates from a service station simply won’t cut it. Head to one of the main shopping streets and power through your Christmas shopping (we suggest a list).

Festive drinks

After a long afternoon of shopping, there is nothing better than finding a nice cosy bar to put up your aching feet and warm up with a hot chocolate or a mulled wine or two.

Our favourite festive watering holes are:

Evening Activities for your Festive Day

Christmas Lights for a festive day

The festivities don’t just stop as the sun sets. If anything the best part of Christmas comes after dark. Start off the evening with a proper Christmas dinner. Nothing beats roast potatoes, Brussel sprouts, roasted carrots, gravy and stuffing.

For a festive feast to beat the holiday hungries we suggest:

Another classic tradition is going to see the Christmas Lights. It’s cheaps (free) but it can be romantic, walking along the street, arm-in-arm/hand-in-hand, pointing out the pretty lights. Just remember to wrap up warm for your stroll to satisfy everyone’s undeniable magpie-like love for sparkly lights.

Be illuminated at these Christmas light hotspots:

  • Regent Street, Oxford Street and Carnaby Street in London
  • Albert Square in Manchester
  • Victoria Square in Birmingham

Finally, finish off the day at one of the many ice skating rinks around the country. Show off your skills or just glide around the rink at one of these wonderlands of ice:

After the Whistle Punks Festive Spirit Bootcamp if you still aren’t feeling the Christmas Spirit then you may be the Grinch or you may need another round of smashing bulls-eyes and becoming uncomfortably competitive at Whistle Punks.

Happy couple post festive day
