How to do a one-handed throw with an axe

First-time axe throwing? It can be daunting if you don’t have any idea about how to axe throw. Don’t worry though. Our expert instructors will have you throwing like a pro in no time but in the meantime, you can check out our handy guide on how to do a one-handed throw with an axe.

One-handed throws - step 1-3

Stand behind the throwing line with your feet close together. When you throw you will want to be balanced.
Hold the axe upright at arm’s length straight out in front of you.
Raise your arm behind your head. Step forward to the throwing line with your strong foot.

One-handed throw steps 4-6

Shift your weight on to your front foot and bring the axe out to the front at the same time. You will need to step forward with enough force to get the axe to the target.
Release the axe in the direction you want it to go.
Remember your arm is doing the aiming and the power comes from the step.
